Our component of the month January is an assembly. It is part of a test rig for powder bed-based technologies, which was developed at the Frauenhofer Institute for Additive Production Technologies IAPT. In order to achieve as flat a powder surface as possible in the additive layer buildup process, it is particularly important to maintain tight form and bearing tolerances as well as surface quality (Rz 6.3).
It was particularly challenging to achieve these requirements over the entire working surface, as this consists of two components, a base plate and the powder unit inserted and welded into it.
